Painting from the masters...

I painted this one a while ago. It is an attempt to translate Vermeer's 'Girl with the pearl earring' into watercolour. Very difficult to match the depth of the colours! And the eyes do not have the same look as the original. But fun to do! The inspiration came from this challenge blog Painting from the Masters.

You made great work! And watercolor! Mr. Vermeer could be happy seeing this girl, I am sure.
Thank you for the link, I saved it and will try, too.

Stunning work and you have captured her charming expression perfectly. I also love the freshness that watercolour has brought to the subject - superb!

Beautiful job nonetheless. Copying the masters in watercolor is quite a challenge. Very well done. --her look is close enough.

Elle est très réussie, je trouve ! Tout en délicatesse.

As the brush is dipped first into the soul ... your girl with a Pearl Earring, is the mirror of your watercolor ... sweet, transparent, elegant and sensitive. Masterpiece, now, of
contemporary watercolor master!

What a great watercolour of the old master. You even got a great reflection on the earring. Lovely job :)

Hi, Judy, good job. Indeed, the "deep" back is challening. Once, Vermeer was my hero and I often copied his work with oil. I hope you'll enjoy his work.
Kind regards, Sadami

Wow, this painting looks so good in watercolor! I think you did a very good job in translating it into this medium, without trying to duplicate the look of the oil painting. And the facial expression is very similar. I like how you manage to keep your light touch even with portraits...
