Painting from the masters...

I painted this one a while ago. It is an attempt to translate Vermeer's 'Girl with the pearl earring' into watercolour. Very difficult to match the depth of the colours! And the eyes do not have the same look as the original. But fun to do! The inspiration came from this challenge blog Painting from the Masters.

  8. As the brush is dipped first into the soul ... your girl with a Pearl Earring, is the mirror of your watercolor ... sweet, transparent, elegant and sensitive. Masterpiece, now, of
    contemporary watercolor master!

  11. Hi, Judy, good job. Indeed, the "deep" back is challening. Once, Vermeer was my hero and I often copied his work with oil. I hope you'll enjoy his work.
    Kind regards, Sadami

  12. Wow, this painting looks so good in watercolor! I think you did a very good job in translating it into this medium, without trying to duplicate the look of the oil painting. And the facial expression is very similar. I like how you manage to keep your light touch even with portraits...
