Portretten... Portraits...

Ik heb niet veel geschilderd de afgelopen week want ik was flink verkouden, niet te geloven! In juli! Nou ja, de zomer is eindelijk aangebroken hier, dus het zal snel beter worden!
Ik dacht ik laat wat portretten zien die ik een tijdje geleden heb gemaakt. Hopelijk vind je ze leuk!

I did not paint much the past week because I had a terrible cold, can you believe it? In July! Well, summer has finally arrived here, so things will get better soon!
I thought I'd show you some portraits I did some time ago, hope you like them!

Ik heb ook een kleurenversie van Cate gedaan. Zie hier.
I also did a colour version of Cate. Look here.

  1. Hope you are all better now Judy. Great portraits. Loose and free but still extremely recognisable I'm sure. Take care. Laura x

  11. These are absolutely beautiful! So sensitively done - I LOVE them!
And summer has also arrived here too - Yay! About time! But sometimes I think that such a sudden change in temperature can cause us to get a cold. Fingers crossed, I haven't had one in a long time. Hope you feel better soon :0)

  16. Judy, I hope you are finally over your cold. I recognized Rutger Hauer right away; what a wonderful and perfect likeness You have done such a superb job with the portraits!!!!

  17. Thank you Cathy!

Sharon, the first portrait is done in Payne's Gray, and the second one in Neutral Tint (because that happened to be on my palette). Both are Rembrandt paints, but I guess another brand is similar.
It is not my original idea, it comes from David Lobenberg, who also wrote a book about portraiture in Payne's Gray.
    Take a look here: http://davidlobenberg.blogspot.com/

Thank you, Kathryn! Yes it's Rutger Hauer. He has such a wonderful 'weathered' face! I wish we women could be called beautiful with that many wrinkles and lines. :)

  24. I hope you are OK now. Sorry you are ill in the middle of the summer, but maybe it was a sign to slow down and think about yourself.
This man. I will think of him as Rutger Hauer in my favorite "Bladerunner"

  27. I just love these, Judy. They look so 'natural' You haven't 'overworked' them which seems allow the characters to do the talking and not the painter ...if you see what I mean.

    Brilliant!

  28. Hope you get well soon Judy. What a lovely lady! You are great in watercolour portraits. That is something that I really need to practise on. I am more used to drawing only (as I started up with that as young). Take care and get well!

    Hello Celeste, thank you!

Thank you Blaga! The first one was difficult to do, he has lots of characteristics like his mouth and eyes, that you have to get right to make it look like him.
