Tadaaaaa... my book!

Hier is ie dan: mijn boek! 

Ik heb in de loop van de jaren zoveel kleine en grotere aquarellen gemaakt geïnspireerd door de natuur. En ik vond het leuk om een aantal daarvan bij elkaar in dit boekje te laten zien. Ik ben heel tevreden ermee!

Het boek is 20 x 25 cm groot en heeft 24 bladzijden.
Mijn boek is te koop in mijn Etsy shop. Of mail me als je belangstelling hebt.

Here it is: my book!

Over the years I have been painting so many small and bigger watercolours inspired by nature. And I love showing some of them together in this little book. I am very happy with it!

The book is 20 x 25 cm in size, and contains 24 pages.

Nature is everywhere.

Even in my urban environment, I find inspiration in nature. A fallen autumn leaf, the first flowers in spring, or a bird’s feather on the ground.

They are my unexpected treasures.

Over the years I’ve painted a lot of these finds.

My paintings are by no means ‘botanical’. They are my loose impressions of the beauty I find in nature.

In this book I brought together some of my favourite nature paintings.

​

I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I enjoyed painting them.

eco printing 2 ... learn from my mistakes

Op een vroege zondagmorgen ging ik naar het park, gewapend met schaar en een grote boodschappentas, om meer bladeren te verzamelen voor eco prints. Ik plukte ook wat bessen en late bloemen. Ik voelde me een beetje stiekem terwijl ik dat deed, maar niemand scheen er aanstoot aan te nemen.

Early Sunday morning I went to the park, armed with scissors and a large shopping bag, to gather more leaves for eco printing. I also picked some berries and late flowers. I felt a little sneaky doing that, but nobody seemed to take offense. 

Ik kookte twee hoeveelheden bladeren, bessen en bloemen, maar de resultaten waren teleurstellend deze keer. De bloemen en bessen lieten bijna geen afdruk op het papier achter.
Bovendien, ik denk dat ik te veel bladeren tegelijk op één pagina propte. Bij mijn eerste poging gebruikte ik slechts één groot blad per pagina. En het resultaat was veel scherper.

I cooked two batches of leaves, berries and flowers, but the results were disappointing this time. The flowers and berries hardly left any marks on the paper at all. 
Furthermore, I think I crammed too many leaves on one page. In my first attempt I only used one big leaf per page, and the results were much more crisp. 

De rhododendron bladeren bovenaan waren erg licht en ik durfde er niet met waterverf overheen te gaan, uit angst de afdruk te verliezen. Dus ik heb de afbeelding digitaal verbeterd.

The rhododendron leaves at the top were very faint and I was afraid to loose the print if I applied any watercolour. So I digitally enhanced the image at the top.

Deze week kwam ik een youtube video tegen over eco printen op papier. Ik wou het zelf ook eens proberen. Ik verzamelde een paar eenvoudige herfstbladeren en stopte ze tussen kleine stukjes aquarelpapier. Maakte er een stapeltje van, bond het bij elkaar tussen twee houten plankjes en kookte dit in een oude pan ongeveer anderhalf uur.

This week I stumbled upon a youtube video about eco printing on paper. I decided to try it myself. I gathered some simple autumn leaves and put them between some small pieces of watercolour paper. Made a little stack, tied it together between two pieces of wood and cooked this in an old pan for an hour and a half. 

Zo kwamen ze eruit. Hoewel ik bladeren had uitgezocht met gele en groene tinten, hadden de prints allemaal dezelfde bruine kleur. Ik gaf ze daarom een blauwe aquarel wash.

This is how they came out. Although I picked leaves with yellow and green shades, the prints all had the same brown colour. So I gave them a blue watercolour wash.
