Op een vroege zondagmorgen ging ik naar het park, gewapend met schaar en een grote boodschappentas, om meer bladeren te verzamelen voor eco prints. Ik plukte ook wat bessen en late bloemen. Ik voelde me een beetje stiekem terwijl ik dat deed, maar niemand scheen er aanstoot aan te nemen.

Early Sunday morning I went to the park, armed with scissors and a large shopping bag, to gather more leaves for eco printing. I also picked some berries and late flowers. I felt a little sneaky doing that, but nobody seemed to take offense.

Herhaal postje van 1/11/2018. Repost from 1/11/2018. 

Deze week kwam ik een youtube video tegen over eco printen op papier. Ik wou het zelf ook eens proberen. Ik verzamelde een paar eenvoudige herfstbladeren en stopte ze tussen kleine stukjes aquarelpapier. Maakte er een stapeltje van, bond het bij elkaar tussen twee houten plankjes en kookte dit in een oude pan ongeveer anderhalf uur.

This week I stumbled upon a youtube video about eco printing on paper. I decided to try it myself. I gathered some simple autumn leaves and put them between some small pieces of watercolour paper. Made a little stack, tied it together between two pieces of wood and cooked this in an old pan for an hour and a half.

Nog een keer irissen, nu op Saunders Waterford papier.

Ik schilder oude thema's opnieuw om er weer in te komen. Voor nu genoeg irissen.

De irissen schilderde ik op Baohong papier. Een nieuw merk. En het bevalt goed.

I painted the irises on Baohong paper. A new brand. And I like it.

Nog een beetje onwennig maar het begin met schilderen is gemaakt. 

Het wennen komt door de manier waarop het papier reageert op erg nat schilderen.

Still a bit rusty but the start with painting has been made. 

The getting used to it is due to the way the paper reacts to very wet painting.

feather revisited

Niet tevreden met de oorspronkelijke versie, besloot ik wat veranderingen aan te brengen.

Ik waste wat donkere lagen vooral linksboven weg, en voegde wat lichte wassingen toe.

Not happy with the original version, I decided to make some changes.

I washed away some dark layers especially on the upper left, and added some light washes.

boekenleggers - bookmarks

Bij mijn schilderpapier bestelling van laatst zat ook een blocnootje met 15 velletjes geschikt om boekenleggers op te schilderen. Ik dacht: klein beginnen. En wat een lekker papier is dat. Ik ging aan de gang en maakte er 15. 

My recent order of painting paper also included a notepad with 15 sheets suitable for painting bookmarks. I thought: start small. And what a nice paper it is. I got started and made 15 of them.

Er is meer papier om uit te proberen. Leuk vooruitzicht!

sneeuwklokjes 25 - snowdrops 25

Ik schilderde weer eens sneeuwklokjes. Om nieuw papier uit te proberen.

Dit is Saunders Waterford van St Cuthberts Mill. En helaas vond ik de structuur van het papier heel ruw en hard. En de verf vloeide niet lekker op het papier. 
Maar het is goed om nieuw papier te testen. Om erachter te komen wat het beste bij mij past.

I painted snowdrops again. To try a new paper.

This is Saunders Waterford from St Cuthberts Mill. And sadly I didn't like the structure of the paper. Too hard and too coarse to my liking. And the paint did not flow very well on the paper.

But it's good to test new papers. And finding out what suits me best.

I can't get the photo exactly right. But they are as light as the picture irl. 

It is good to be back.

Weer eens een poging tot schilderen na een lange tijd, met deze tulpen.

Ik kan de foto niet precies goed krijgen. Maar in het echt is het schilderij echt zo licht.

Het is goed om weer terug te zijn.

Smaakt naar meer.

Hier is ie dan: mijn boek! 

Ik heb in de loop van de jaren zoveel kleine en grotere aquarellen gemaakt geïnspireerd door de natuur. En ik vond het leuk om een aantal daarvan bij elkaar in dit boekje te laten zien. Ik ben heel tevreden ermee!

Here it is: my book!

Over the years I have been painting so many small and bigger watercolours inspired by nature. And I love showing some of them together in this little book. I am very happy with it!

The book is 20 x 25 cm in size, and contains 24 pages.

Nature is everywhere.

Even in my urban environment, I find inspiration in nature. A fallen autumn leaf, the first flowers in spring, or a bird’s feather on the ground.

They are my unexpected treasures.

Over the years I’ve painted a lot of these finds.

My paintings are by no means ‘botanical’. They are my loose impressions of the beauty I find in nature.

​

In this book I brought together some of my favourite nature paintings.

​

I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I enjoyed painting them.

Jan Voerman (1857 - 1941)

Dit is de tentoonstelling die ik in 2014 heb bezocht. Jan Voerman is beroemd om zijn mooie wolkenluchten en zijn IJssel landschappen. Maar zijn prachtige bloemenstillevens hebben mijn hart gestolen.Er waren ook een hoop studies en tekeningen van zijn hand te zien.

This is the exhibition I visited in 2014. Jan Voerman is famous for his beautiful cloudy skies and his IJssel riverlandscapes. But his wonderful flower still lifes stole my heart. There were also a lot of his studies and drawings on display.

De bloemenschilderijen zijn allemaal aquarellen.

The flower paintings are all watercolours.

Het laatste schilderij hieronder is een oude bekende. Ik heb hem wel eens nageschilderd van een boekomslag. Het blijkt dit schilderij te zijn, een aquarel van Jan Voerman. Wat leuk om het in het echt te zien!

The last painting below is an old friend. I painted a copy of a bookcover once. It turned out to be a watercolour by Jan Voerman. So great to see it in real life!

Seurat and Van Gogh...

Onlangs ben ik naar het Kröller Müller Museum geweest, om de tentoonstelling over Georges Seurat, meester van het pointillisme, te bekijken. En natuurlijk ook kon ik ook de vaste collectie Van Goghs niet overslaan.

Recently I visited the Kröller Müller Museum, to see the exhitibion about Georges Seurat, master of pointillism. And of course I also admired their permanent Van Gogh collection. Below some photo's.
