Omelette...

Twee kleine schilderijen voor de challenge van vorige week op Daily Paintworks. Beide ong. 20 x 17 cm.
Ik heb dit bericht een wat donkerder achtergrond gegeven zodat ze beter uitkomen. Dit was leuk om te schilderen, gewoon schilderen wat je ziet en niet nadenken. En ik had een lekkere omelet na afloop.
Ik ben dol op het schilderen van eten! :)

Two small paintings for last week's challenge on Daily Paintworks. Both appr. 20 x 17 cm.
I gave this post a little darker background so they stand out better. These were fun to paint, just paint what you see and don't think. And I had a delicious omelette afterwards. 
I like painting food! :)

Slowly softly...

Hallo allemaal, zijn jullie er nog? Ik hoop dat jullie een fijne zomer hebben gehad.
Langzaamaan ben ik weer aan het schilderen. Niet schilderen en niet bloggen voelde als spijbelen in het begin, wat voor mij aantoonde dat ik duidelijk aan een pauze toe was! :) Bij dit schilderij heb ik geprobeerd hard en zacht te combineren.

Hi everyone, are you still there? I hope you had a wonderful summer. 
I  am slowly painting again. Not painting and not blogging felt like skipping school in the beginning, which proved to me I obviously needed a break! :) In this painting I tried to combine hard and soft.

Groene weiden... Green pastures...

Vorig jaar waren mijn zoon en ik in de provincie Noord-Brabant, een prachtig stuk van Nederland met bos afgewisseld met boerderijen, maisvelden en weelderige groene weiden.
Het leven is goed in het Brabantse land, zegt het liedje.

Last year my son and I were in the province of North Brabant, a lovely part of Holland with woodland interspersed with farms, cornfields and lush green meadows. 
Life is good in Brabant, says the song.

Voor mijn blogvrienden in Zuid-Europa waar het erg warm is momenteel, een beetje verkoeling.

For my blogfriends in Southern Europe where it's very hot at the moment, a little refreshment.

Pears... step by step...

Both Irina and Pat asked me to make a video recently. My first thought was: have you seen what I threw away in the past week?! :) Well, a video I cannot do, but I can do a step by step photo series. You know I am absolutely no expert nor a teacher, but I can share what I have learned.

I used the same reference photo of the pears in my previous post, it is Challenge nr. 1 of Paint and Draw Together.

I made a quick drawing and started painting the pears and most of the background yellow, careful to leave the highlights white.

While that was still wet....

....I added sapgreen.... and vermillion red.

When the red threatened to take over the whole pear.... oops...

.... I used paper towel to remove the excess and soften the edges. Tip: try not to go back in again with the brush, but control the paint by tilting the paper.

I also added more yellow to both pears, making use of the nice property of yellow (and also clean water) to push other colours away.

Since it was all very wet....

....I then waited till the whole painting dried. When totally dry I carefully erased most of the pencil lines.

Then I added ultramarine blue, and softened edges here and there with a damp brush.

Then I added shadows and the last finishing touches....

and tadaaaaah.....
