Echt lente!

This is the oldest Dutch text that was ever found. It is written about the year 1100 by a Flemish monk. It is probably part of an old poem or song.
It means:
"All birds have begun making nests, except you and I. What are we waiting for?"
Isn't that romantic?
This little nest was painted quickly, with a lot of water and with a lot of fun.
While painting I remembered this old text.
Really spring!

BeantwoordenVerwijderenThank you... Celia, Simonne, Daniele, Kathryn and Beatriz!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI feel I lost some light on the eggs because it was such a wet painting. Maybe I'll add a little white gouache highlights.
I love nests. I was decorating a bit for spring, placing nests here and there, and my darling grand daughter said look nana nests eggs! Ah yes spring.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery Pretty painting Judy - please do visit my blog if you have time, I have put up a photograph of the blackbirds nest with four fragile blue eggs which I saw at the weekend on a walk in the forest. Betty

BeantwoordenVerwijderenBeautiful, today, to be able to remember words so ancient that you now dear judy, have passed down to us. The nest is lively and full of movement, it does so much tenderness and communicates joy. I wish you a lot of happy painting!
Thank you all, dear blogfriends!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenToday I lifted a little paint from the eggs, to create soft highlights. They are a little lighter now.
Wonderful, and yes - very romantic!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI can see the fun you had with your water and pigments. Lovely flow and transitions. I like the texture on the eggs too. Lovely poem. Makes you think. xx
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt is so beautiful how you combined the very wet washes with the perfect texture of the straw. Works so well and so interesting to explore, figuring out how you did it... And I am not envious of your warm weather any more, spring is here too :)
